Elmira College Cheerleaders

This past September, I traveled to Elmira, NY to photograph the cheerleaders. They use the images in a calender which they sell as a fundraiser. I coached the cheerleaders during the 2002-2004 seasons. It is always nice to return for a weekend visit. Here are a few of my favorites from the photo session.

update

I have been one busy girl. This is the time of year that I dread. The next 12 weeks leading up to Christmas will be absolutely insane for me. It’s October and I’m still working on August weddings. I hate being behind on my work. It’s my number one worry that keeps me up at night. I would love to deliver my work faster to my clients but it’s impossible. I tend to be overly optimistic about how much I can actually get done in a day. I get angry at myself when I can’t achieve my unrealistic deadlines. What’s a girl to do? Thanks for letting me vent!

Coming soon on this blog….

August 16, August 23 and September 13 weddings

An engagement session and a baby session

Photos from a project that I did for the Elmira College Cheerleaders

Plus photos from my upcoming fall weddings.

Check back often for new work!

Some of you may remember my blog post last month about my brother Jason's wedding. Well I finally have their photos posted in my online store to be viewed.

Below are two fun photos that my mom captured with her point-and-shoot camera.

Goodbye Summer of ‘08

Early this morning, as I was enjoying my daily cup of coffee, I watched the school bus pass my house to pick up all the neighborhood children. It always feels like summer is officially over once we celebrate the first day of the new school year.

It has been a while since I blogged anything personal. The summer months get very crazy here at our studio. As soon as the 4th of July hits everything is out of control. Our phone rings off the hook with people interested in high school senior portraits. We also get more walk-ins than usual. My dad starts shooting 2 senior sessions a day and also holds 2 senior presentation appointments a day. While he is out of the office, I’m left to be the receptionist and handle customer service. I work on wedding edits, album designs and retouching in between the madness and in the evenings when things calm down. I typically start my workday between 10:00 and 11:00am. I leave at 5:30pm for a quick dinner and return at 6:30pm. Then I work until my eyes give out from staring at the computer all day, which is normally between 10:00pm and 11:00pm.

Saturdays are wedding days. Although they are long days they are fun and enjoyable! When I get tired of the computer work, I remind myself how lucky I am to be hired to photograph such an important day in a couple’s life. I know the wedding photos will become a valued treasure for both the bride and groom and their families.

Sunday morning, I drag my tired body out of bed to pack my equipment away, recharge my batteries, download memory cards and burn DVD backups. Working Sundays gives me a good head start on the work week.

This past Saturday, I photographed my last wedding of the summer. I have been to twelve so far this year. August was my most challenging month with 4 in a row. I worked 4 weeks straight without a day off. It starts to wear on you after a while. I woke up Sunday morning, and realize I have been neglecting my husband Andy this past month. To make up for some of the lost husband time, we decided to take a drive to Greensburg to have lunch and do a little shopping at the Westmoreland Mall.

We ended up at Primanti Brothers, which is a favorite of Pittsbugh natives.

It was a perfect day for the patio!
Here is a close up of Pittsburgh's Most Famous Sandwich. It's very yummy!

The sandwich is stuffed with cheese, your choice of meat, french fries, cole slaw and tomatoes. Part of the fun is trying to fit this huge sandwich into your mouth. Silverware is for babies!

I don't even want to know how many calories. It was well worth it.

Update

Hi Blog Readers,

You may have noticed that I have been MIA from blogging during the past two weeks. The summer is flying by and I have a ton of new photographs to blog including 4 weddings and my trip to NYC! I just returned home today after my brother Jason’s wedding this past weekend. Jason was married in the Philadelphia area. We went out a few days early for pre-wedding preparations and the rehearsal dinner. The wedding was fabulous! After the wedding, Andy and I spent 2 days in New York City for a mini summer vacation. It is extremely hard for me to get away during the summer months with my weekend wedding schedule so the NYC trip was a great treat! We even saw a Broadway Musical (more about that later). Check this blog often this week. I will be blogging my June 21 wedding and Jason and Sarah’s July 19 wedding later today. July 5 and 12th weddings will be later this week/early next week. ~Jill

Harrisburg, PA

Back in June, I spent a weekend visiting my brother in Harrisburg for some pre-wedding festivities. Jason will be married on July 19. We took an early morning walk downtown. One of my favorite things to photograph is city streets. Below are a few of my favorites...all converted to black & white for a fine art look. Enjoy!

Misc. Monday

Last week completely threw me off with Memorial Day on Monday. I taught my intermediate digital photography class on Tuesday and Thursday at UPJ. I now have a break from teaching until the fall.

It’s official…Dad and I are on the schedule to present at the Triangle Photographers Association during the Fall Convention. I’m very excited! I love to teach and share what I know, but I am also a little nervous to stand up and speak in front of my peers. There are a ton of ultra talented photographers who attend the convention. I look up to many of them for their talents and success in the photo business. This is a great opportunity and honor for our studio! The Hancock Family will be sharing how we work as a family business and specialize in special event photography (sports, high school seniors and weddings).

What the duck? There is a comic strip geared towards photographers. I will be sharing some of my favorites from time to time. Today’s comic is very fitting. I just found out today that our summer intern is schedule to start tomorrow. I will introduce you all to Stephanie later this week.

Have a great week! I will be posting photos from my May 24 wedding very soon!

Sex in the City

Is anyone else excited for the release of the Sex in the City Movie? I know what I'm doing Friday night. I don't remember the last movie that I actually wanted to see on opening night. I hope it lives up to expectations. Check out the website . I love the graphics and music selections (it's very girly).
