Trash the Dress

Trash the Dress sessions have become very popular with photographers and brides throughout the country. Read more on the the trash the dress blog. Some people are appalled at the idea when they hear that a bride would “trash her wedding dress” but it is not as bad as you might think.

A Trash the Dress session is a way for a bride (or newly wed couple) to be creative after the wedding day. It gives the couple a chance to put on their wedding attire and be photographed at a fun location. There are different situations were a bride and groom may want to dress in wedding attire and pose for the camera. For example, if your wedding took place in June but you always dreamed of a winter wedding, you could call your photographer on a perfect winter day and take snow portraits. Trash the Dress allows you to have some fun and create portraits that were not possible on your wedding day because of time restrains, weather, season, location, etc. In most cases the dress only gets a little dirty and can saved with dry cleaning.

When I was in Florida for the Digital Wedding Forum convention, I participated in a Trash the Dress session with seven other photographers. Our model Michelle is a breast cancer survivor and participated in the session as part of her recovery process. Michelle was recently married and wanted some photos in her wedding gown. These photos were taken at the beach in Tampa around 7:00am. It was freezing that morning but Michelle never complained. I want to thank her for the opportunity to capture these gorgeous photos (it’s not everyday that I get to photograph on a beach).
